Open Enrollment for 2027 coverage November 1 – January 15

This is the one window of the year when anyone can enroll in a Marketplace plan without a qualifying life event. Enroll by December 15 and coverage starts January 1 — after that, the earliest start is February 1, 2027.

December 15 is the date that actually matters

The window runs through January 15, but December 15 is the last day to enroll for coverage that starts January 1. Enroll after that and your plan does not begin until February 1, 2027 — a gap month you pay for out of pocket if anything happens.

No qualifying life event needed

Open Enrollment is the one stretch of the year when anyone can start, switch, or drop a Marketplace plan. Outside it you need a qualifying life event, and most people do not have one.

Last year’s plan is not this year’s plan

Carriers change networks, drug lists, deductibles, and prices every year, and the savings you qualify for are recalculated against 2027 figures. Staying put without looking is still a decision.

Auto-renewal is not the same as the right plan

If you do nothing you may be re-enrolled automatically — possibly into a different plan if yours was discontinued. It is worth ten minutes to confirm what you would be rolled into.

How it works

  1. Answer a few questions

Your ZIP code, household size, and expected income for the year. About two minutes — no account to create.

  2. A licensed agent calls you

They pull the actual 2027 plans and prices for your county, check whether you qualify for savings, and confirm your doctors are in network.

  3. Enroll before December 15

If a plan fits, the agent can complete the enrollment on the same call so your coverage starts January 1.

Common questions

When is Open Enrollment for 2027 coverage?
November 1, 2026 through January 15, 2027 on HealthCare.gov. Enroll by December 15 for coverage starting January 1; enroll between December 15 and January 15 and coverage starts February 1, 2027. A handful of state-run Marketplaces set their own dates, and the agent will confirm yours.
Do I need a qualifying life event to enroll?
Not during Open Enrollment. That is what makes this window different — anyone eligible for Marketplace coverage can enroll, switch plans, or change carriers without needing a life event.
What happens if I miss January 15?
You would generally wait until the next Open Enrollment unless you have a qualifying life event — losing other coverage, moving, marriage, a new child, or leaving Medicaid, among others. Each of those opens its own 60-day window.
I already have a Marketplace plan. Do I have to do anything?
You may be automatically re-enrolled, but not always into the same plan — if yours was discontinued you can be moved into a different one. Reviewing it during the window is how you find out before the bill arrives rather than after.
Will my costs change next year?
They can. Carriers reprice every plan year, and eligibility for premium tax credits is recalculated against your expected income for the coming year. An agent can show you the actual figures for your county rather than an estimate.
Is there a cost to talk to an agent?
No. Comparing plans and enrolling through a licensed agent costs the same as enrolling on your own — agents are paid by the carrier, not by you. There is no obligation to enroll.
